Residents of a township west of Bendigo have been told it’s too late to leave as a raging grass fire threatens homes.

The Country Fire Authority has issued an emergency warning for Maiden Gully, with residents warned to take shelter immediately.

The grass fire is moving south-easterly from Shumakers Lane towards Homer Beacon Road.

The CFA warned that homes in the Homer Beacon Road vicinity are under threat.

Residents of several small towns in the state’s north-east have also been told to take shelter immediately as an out-of-control bushfire moves towards them.

The CFA has issued an emergency warning for Hiawatha, Jack River, Madalya and Staceys Bridge, near Madalya.

Residents have been told it is too late to leave and to take shelter immediately.

A fast moving and out-of-control bushfire is moving southerly from Egans Road towards Staceys Bridge.
