Description:
On 7 November 2009 the Canberra Choral Society is delighted to present a concert in celebration of the 350th birthday of Henry Purcell, one of the greatest of all English composers.
Purcell lived during a crossroads in English modern history – experiencing the restoration of the monarchy, the great fire of London, the plague and The Glorious Revolution – and at a defining moment in English musical development. This program will take place under the direction of the Society’s musical director Dr Peter Pocock, one of Australia’s leading choral conductors. The concert will feature the Canberra-based talents of countertenor and Opera Australia star Tobias Cole, a performer of international reputation ably assisted by countertenor David Yardley, sopranos Karen FitzGibbon and Sonia Anfiloff, tenor David Mackey and baritone Ben Connors with the CCS Chamber Orchestra led by Barbara Gilby.
