Can Brad Pitt really be 50?

Date

Zoom in on this story. Explore all there is to know.

Brad Pitt turned 50 this week, and the man who can play all ages – think The Curious Case of Benjamin Button – and any genre of film – compare Snatch to Inglorious Basterds, Ocean's Eleven or Burn After Reading – is still very clearly at the top of his game.

Still one of the world's most sought-after actors, he has maintained his boyish good looks and joins a clique of over-50s who can still genuinely carry off the “Hollywood heartthrob” cliché.

He's also among the best-paid, with 10 films he starred in having grossed more than $US300 million ($339 million); the highest-grossing was World War Z ($US540 million) ahead of Troy ($US497 million) and Mr and Mrs Smith ($US478 million).

He joins the likes of Johnny Depp and John Stamos (both 50), Jon Bon Jovi (51), George Clooney and Dylan McDermott (52) and Antonio Banderas, Colin Firth and David Duchovny (53) as past-50 performers who are still very much at the top of their game.

  • The alarming thing is there are just no real stars in current generations stepping in to takeover. Not one. Ahh well, at least some of us lived through the glory days when they were Gods.

    • Actors in the past may have had a more glamorous image than nowadays. However, their image was carefully stage managed by the major studios who wanted to protect their investments.

But don't be fooled - they were never gods even if the some of the public saw them that way.

    • I nominate Hank B Marvin - former lead guitar of The Shadows.
Not sure of his age, although he's definitely over 50.
Lives in Perth and still performs, I believe. 'Apache' is the best instrumental ever.

    • Being filthy rich helps, i.e. hair transplants and teeth veneers. Not much stress either. However, many of them do take very good care of themselves. Exercise, no excessive drinking and smoking.

      • I must admit I clicked on George Clooney, but then I remembered Denzel Washington walking out of his hotel room in his pilot's uniform in Flight and OH MY GOODNESS I had to have a cold shower in a hurry.

        I'm feelin' alright, oh ho.

          • And an Honourable mention to Keith Richards, purely for still being alive.
