Real Humans

Pick which are the Real Humans

Of course, the best series on TV at the moment is Justified, but that's on Pay TV and therefore inaccessible to 70 per cent of the populace. On TV everyone can watch, the best thing is Real Humans, on SBS at 9.30 on Saturdays. But see below for how many take advantage of this blessing.

If you looked at the "total people" chart for Thursday, you'd assert that Ten did its dough in buying and promoting American Idol on the strength of Keith Urban. It was number 15 program of the night, barely managing half a million in the mainland capitals. But here's the Thursday chart for viewers aged 16 to 39: 1 The tennis; 2 American Idol; 3 Home and Away. For the purposes of selling Clearasil, Idol is a winner.

MasterChef: The Professionals continues to float above a million viewers (see our chart, below). What did we think of it? Will it save Ten's bacon? Alert reader Darren gives it two thumbs up (see Comments, below). Presumably he joins the discerning 48,000 who watch Real Humans.

It's not as if the other commercial stations were offering much competition on Sunday. Rain stopped play in Nine's cricket and there were no Aussies in Seven's tennis. If Ten could not get more than a million viewers for Masterchef: The Professionals there'd be something seriously wrong (and they'd have to refund the advertisers). In the event, M:TP averaged 1.2 million in the mainland capitals and peaked at 1.4 million. Then on Monday and Tuesday, the audience dropped to 1 million. Do you miss Gary and George? Will you keep watching?

And here's Pay TV's account of itself: "Live Football A-League Melbourne V Sydney (109,000) on FOX SPORTS 1 was the highest rated broadcast followed by Modern Family (94,000/121,000 *including plus two hours) on FOX8. Last Man Standing on FOX8 was watched by an audience of 93,000/106,000*and Baggage Battles on A&E attracted 86,000 viewers. Rounding out the Top 10: Come Dine With Me Australia (83,000/105,000*) on The LifeStyle Channel; The Simpsons (75,000/100,000*) on FOX8; Live Football A-League C Coast V Adelaide (71,000) on FOX SPORTS 1; Chicago Fire (67,000/72,000*) on FOX8; and, Storage Wars (68,000) and Pawn Stars (67,000) on A&E. Year to date share of viewing is 58.2% in STV homes, 23.4% in metro and 19% in regional markets."
