Fairfax Media understands Mr Gore and Mr Palmer will discuss global warming and climate policy in a joint press conference in the Great Hall.
Mr Palmer's spokesman Andrew Crook is remaining tight-lipped about details of the event, but he said it was "not wrong" that Mr Gore is expected in the building in the next few hours.
In a statement on Wednesday afternoon, Mr Palmer said climate change was a global issue and he will discuss this with Mr Gore.
The leader of the Palmer United Party earlier on Wednesday announced a press conference for 5.30pm.
Mr Palmer's incoming Queensland senator Glenn Lazarus is expected to be on hand for the announcement, which Mr Palmer has promised will address his plans for the repeal of the carbon tax bills.
The event comes ahead of Mr Palmer's meeting with Prime Minister Tony Abbott on Thursday morning.
"Wednesday night we'll have an announcement to make on what we think is a solution for Australia and the world," Mr Palmer told the ABC earlier on Wednesday.
"It's going to be a very exciting time I think."
Mr Gore is in Australia as part of the Climate Reality Project and is hosted by the Australian Conservation Foundation.
He has focused on the environment since leaving politics, founding several non-profit organisations, and in 2007 shared the Nobel Peace Prize with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climte Change.
An Inconvenient Truth, the documentary that sprang from the slide show Mr Gore created while in Congress to explain climate change, won an Academy Award.
