Jenny Macklin has poured cold water on reports emanating from her own party that Labor is set to wave through changes that will freeze the rate of family tax benefits for two years.

Labor's families spokeswoman said on Tuesday the opposition would not be supporting any freeze to the family tax benefit rate – a move which would save the budget $750 million per year.
The comments come a day after Labor sources said the party was aware it could not be seen to be overly negative and that, in government, it too had "paused" increases to family payments.
“There's a lot of speculation around this morning about what Labor may do in the face of Tony Abbott's cuts to family tax benefits,” Ms Macklin said.
“I just want to make it very clear, Labor will not support a freeze to any family tax benefit payment rate.”
Ms Macklin said the opposition would stand up for the poorest families in the country who were facing a cut to their standard of living due to the Abbott government's “cruel budget”.
“Labor has made it plain that it will not support changes to family tax benefit part B that would see families with children over the age of six lose their family tax benefit part B,” she said.
“That will mean thousands of dollars out of the pockets of very, very low and middle income families and Labor will not support that.
“We will also not support a freeze or cut to the rates of family tax benefits.”
