Another sandwich was thrown at the Prime Minister on Thursday, during a school visit in Canberra.
The bread-based missile, which appeared to contain salami and a butter-like spread, was lobbed by an as-yet unidentified culprit in a crowd of students. It is reported to have hit her arm before falling to the ground.
Ms Gillard was visiting Lyneham High School in the city's north to announce that the ACT had signed up to the Gonski education funding reforms.
During the visit, Ms Gillard was enthusiastically greeted by students, who were banging on classroom windows and trying to shake her hand as she walked past.
The Prime Minister did not react at the time to the sandwich, but when asked about it in a later press conference, remarked: ''They must have thought I was hungry.''
ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher also made light of the sandwich chuck saying: ''Schools are full of kids, kids occasionally do silly things''.
Ms Gallagher said the students who had spoken with the PM at Lyneham appeared to have enjoyed her visit.
''Occasionally you're going to get a rogue student,'' she said.
''From what I saw – and I was squashed in the crowd – it was a really excited student population eager to talk with the Prime Minster and she was very generous with her time.''
A spokeswoman for Lyneham High School told Fairfax Media it had no comment.
The ACT Education and Training spokesman said the school was investigating.
''The school is currently looking in to this incident, and speaking to the student involved,'' he said.
This is the second sandwich incident to involve the Prime Minister this month.
Earlier this month, a teenager at a Queensland school was suspended after he was held responsible for a Vegemite sandwich that was thrown at the Prime Minister during another school visit.
The teen, Kyle Thomson, denied he was the thrower, saying he was an innocent bystander who was trying to protect Ms Gillard from the sandwich.
The Prime Minister brushed off the incident, saying the visit to Marsden High School had been a good one.
