Tasmanians are set to go to the polls, after Labor Premier Lara Giddings announced a state election for March 15.

Ms Giddings confirmed on Thursday that she had also sacked Greens ministers Nick McKim and Cassie O'Connor from her cabinet.
In a further bid to distance Labor from the Greens in the lead up to the vote, the Premier announced that Tasmanian Labor MPs have agreed to never appoint Greens to a Labor cabinet again.
"We have reached the logical time to end the agreement between Labor and the Greens," she told reporters.
"It is absolutely important that we focus on the future."
But unlike the Tasmanian Liberals, Ms Giddings did not rule out governing in a future minority arrangement with the Greens.
Setting up the election as a battle against the federal Coalition as well as the state Liberal Party, Ms Giddings said the vote would be about who would "stand up to" the Abbott government.
"We have an enemy before us called Tony Abbott, and the Liberal Coalition government nationally, that is taking away reforms that we fought so hard for," she said, nominating the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the National Broadband Network, heath and education as key areas of concern.
"We can't even get them to commit to the funding we need for our kids' education."
Ms Giddings said that the State Parliament would be recalled on January 28 to debate a bill that would remove legal doubts around the validity of the Tamar Valley Pulp Mill - a project which the Greens oppose.
She said that if there was no certainty for the project there is a risk the trees will be sold regardless. "The jobs will be exported along with the trees," she said.
Describing the last four years of power sharing with the Greens, Ms Giddings said it had been a "good government".
But she argued that Labor supporters had been disappointed by the partnership, and that Greens in the ministry had made it harder Labor to communicate its achievements.
"I will be campaigning for Labor majority government at the next election," she said.
She argued that her party would be the underdogs going into the election against Liberal leader Will Hodgman.
The most recent EMRS opinion poll showed the ALP was unable to make an impression on voters, with 22 per cent backing, compared to the Greens' 19 per cent, and the Liberals' 49 per cent.
The sacking of Mr McKim and Ms O'Connor has prompted a modest reshuffle within Ms Gidding's cabinet.
Ms Giddings said this would allow Labor to show voters "exactly what a future Labor government would look like".
Australia's only other state with a Labor government, South Australia, will also be heading to the polls on March 15.
On Thursday, the Greens leader Mr McKim was defiant, saying that the Labor and Liberal parties were focused on politics while his party cared about positive change.
"There is no doubt Tasmanians want change."
Ms O'Connor was upbeat, sending a message to Ms Giddings and her deputy Bryan Green.
"No hard feelings, guys."
Responding to the election announcement, Mr Hodgman said that Ms Giddings had talked for almost 40 minutes on Thursday but not outlined any plans.
"This election is all about who has the best plan for Tasmania's future, and we have that plan for Tasmania's future. It's a plan backed by over 100 policies, and it is a plan that is all about regrowing our economy, creating jobs," he said.
"So to Tasmanians, I say this: If you want to change the direction that our state is heading in ... you'll have to vote Liberal."
