Federation a tussle about power, not principles

Tony Abbott has some right to feel disappointed, if little excuse for feeling abused, by a general lack of enthusiasm for an earnest and frank consultation with the opposition and premiers about reshaping the federation for the 21st century. It's a debate which ought to happen, for the national good if not necessarily good for all sections of the nation.
