FULL TIME!

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS SPAIN ARE OUT OF THE WORLD CUP IN THE FIRST ROUND

They've gone down 2-0 to Chile and will play a dead rubber against Australia on Tuesday morning (2am AEST)

It's the first time a defending champion team has lost their first two games of the subsequent World Cup.

For Australia, sadly it also means they won't be qualifying for the next round.

Six minutes of extra time left

90th min

Cazorla's kick is deflected by Bravo low to his left.

It's looking like it's all over for Spain, what an incredible couple of results going against them!

ESP 0-2 CHI

85th min

Spain have about eight minutes to score three goals or their World Cup is done and dusted.

It's been a lacklustre second half from both teams, nothing on the pace and fluidity of the first half.

Referee awards Torres a free after being hit in the back. It's within. This is their last chance.

He thought Chile would win. Definitely picked a winner!

80th min

Spain fluff another chance in front of goal. In all seriousness, if Australia can continue to play the brand of football that has kept them in the contest, they will be chance of knocking off Spain.

Cazorla's shot on goal goes just wide for a corner. And another corner. Claudio Bravo comes off his line and plucks the ball from the air.

ESP 0-2 CHI

75th min

Pedro coming off for Santi Cazorla in the last 15 minutes to salvage something for Spain here.

Iniesta deemed to be offside as Spain try more offensive plays through the air rather than on the deck.

There are plenty of grim faces in the crowd with red shirts on - probably trying to fathom how their team has under performed so badly in this World Cup.

ESP 0-2 CHI

You're not wrong, he's had a great start.

71st min

Sanchez makes a terrific break down the middle of the field, corsses to Felipe Gutierrez, whose header goes left.

The clock is winding down on Spain's titles defence - an incredible story give their extreme favouritism pre-tournament.

Spain have a counter attack, a through ball to Torres goes begging and can't penetrate the defensive line.

ESP 0-2 CHI

66th min

25mins to play and Spain are battling to find open space, they're being pressured by the Chilean defensive line.

On another note, things are looking very grim for Australia's to qualification chances.

Alexis Sanchez slips over while shooting, and it sails over the bar.

ESP 0-2 CHI

63rd min

Chile pressing hard down the other end now. Sanchez has a shot on goal but it comes back at him just as quick off the legs of a Spaniard defender.

Diego Costa coming off for none other than Fernando Torres. Defining moment of the match? Hard to see - let's see what kind of an impact he has.

ESP 0-2 CHI

59th min

The Europeans string multiple passes together around the box and begin to look the goods.

Fernando Torres warming up on the bench - could he be Spain's go to man?

ESP 0-2 CHI

This is Chile's second goal. Not a bad one. The quality of goals in this World Cup so far has been exceptional!

55th min

Spain have had the bulk of the possession this half but have blown their best chance of the half through Iniesta. Already ten minutes into the half and they'll be searching for a hero.

ESP 0-2 CHI

52nd min

Spain receive a free kick just outside the box. A really good chance for them.

Sergio Ramos' kick goes straight at the keeper but Costa's bicycle kick results in an absolute sitter which Iniesta misses right in front of goal with the left peg.

Inexcusable at international level that.

ESP 0-2 CHI

Cheeky cheeky. But I love it.

48th min

To Spain's credit, they've just knocked around ten solid passes including a couple of backheels to start the half.

Diego Costa has the first chance of the half, his chip kick going wide. Spain looking the goods in this very early stage in the second half.

ESP 0-2 CHI

SECOND HALF UNDERWAY!

Spain's World Cup is on the line - big 45 mins for them

#fightback

Spain are paying $51 with the bookies to make a miracle comeback and eventually go on to win the World Cup.

Chile are two goals up at half time, but to be fair Spain haven't been without the ball. The only problem is that they haven't looked very potent in front of goals.

HALFTIME: SPAIN 0 - 2 CHILE

Spain have conceded six goals in their last 90 minutes of football an are in all sorts of trouble.

This is shaping up to be a very crucial second half for Spain.

I repeat: No team in World Cup history has lost their opening two games after winning the Cup before.

Stay tuned

GOOOOAAAAAAL Chile draw two goals clear.

Aranguiz slots one after getting the rebound from Spaniard keeper Casillas.

Wow! Spain are in real danger of not qualifying here, this is incredible stuff.

ESP 0-2 CHI

42nd min

"Within 50 minutes of the last 16" is what commentators are saying about Chile and it's true.

Chile get a free kick as a result of a tackle from behind on Alexis Sanchez. It's within distance, so they might just go for it, rather than a set play.

Sanchez' free kick hits the target but the best is yet to come...

39th min

Silva puts through a ball to Alba and it goes out for a throw. A subsequent cross is caught nicely by Bravo near the back post.

Spain still pressing but haven't really looking like drawing level with Chile. Bear in mind, if they lose today, they will be out of the World Cup. Even a draw won'T guarantee qualification.

ESP 0-1 CHI

STAT: Of 11 shots on goal against them this World Cup, Spain have conceded six.

ESP 0-1 CHI (37MINS)

32nd min

Spain pressing hard here to find the equaliser. A through ball to Diego Costa just goes a bit far and Chilean keeper Bravo swoops on it.

A Chilean player cops a knee to the back of the head but he's alright. Maybe he wasn't diving...

ESP 0-1 CHI

30th min -

Just in Group B alone, haven't there been some surprises! Both games Australia competed and weren't expected to. And in both of Spain's games, they've been down on the scoresheet. Funny game, football.

Spain have a long range free kick but it goes straight into the wall.

ESP 0-1 CHI

25th min

Chile well in enemy territory here and haven't the crowd picked up their tempo!

Spain's Pedro is pushed off the ball down the right side of the field but isn't awarded a penalty. He claps referee.

Vital is shown a yellow card for his refusal to retreat.

ESP 0-1 CHI

A quick little vine of the goal from Chile's number 11 Eduardo Vargas!

Beautiful example of a team passing the ball on the deck in the lead up to a fine goal

GOOOOAAAAALLLLLL! Chile put the pressure on Spain with a great team effort

Eduardo Vargas puts one in the back of the net. Spain under the pump here!

ESP 0-1 CHI

I reckon there's a few more young girls getting around the Spaniard team now...

15th min

Silva has a shot on goal which is deflected to the right side of the goal. With the ball still in play, there's a bit of a scrap in the goal, but Xabi Alsonso's shot on goal is deemed to be within a offside position. Span looking dangerous here.

ESP 0-0 CHI

12th min

Chile spreading it around the back in front of coach Jorge Sampaoli, who is getting animated already.

Deigo Costa's run to the box is smothered by Chile's defence but they're awarded a free kick courtesy of a push in the back from Vidal on David Silva.

Alonso's keep is way too deep and it goes our for a goal kick.

ESP 0-0 CHI

What does everyone reckon? Can Spain get back on the winning bandwagon?

A through ball to Chile's Sanchez goes a little bit beyond him. Spain with some nice touches early here.

Jordi Alba makes a break down the left wing before passing to Iniesta who is brought down from behind and awarded a foul.

The cross from the free kick is almost headed in at the back post, but Chile comes up with the ball.

ESP 0-0 CHI

STAT: No defending World Cup winner has ever lost the first two games of a tournament. Hopefully Chile haven't informed of this stat!

4th min

David Silva goes one-two with Rodrigeuz but nothing comes of it. Quite a quick paced start here though, but it's the stereotypically Chilean way.

ESP 0-0 CHI

1st min

Chile have two shots at goal in the first minute. First a kick from Eduardo Vargas which lead to a corner.

Then defender Gonzalo Jara's header went wide. Solid start from the Chileans here.

ESP 0-0 CHI

It was pretty good wasn't it!

WE'RE UNDERWAY!

A big game for both teams desperate to walk away with the three points.

ESP 0-0 CHI

And the Chilean fans are still causing a ruckus in the media centre.

Spain will go into the game as favourites ($1.47) despite their 5-1 shellacking at the hands of the Dutch on Saturday morning.

Chile at $6 look to be a bit of value but you can't help but think that think Spaniard coach Vicente Del Bosque will be asking for his men to lift after their dismal display last time around.

The only way Australia can still qualify for the round of 16 is if Spain beat Chile, Australia beat Spain in our next game on Tuesday morning (2am AEST) and Netherlands beat Chile.

Stranger things have happened. Or have they?

It appears that some Chilean fans have stormed into the stadium through the media tent. You don't see that everyday!

And we're back into it after the Socceroos' excellent showing against the Dutch; a narrow 3-2 loss.

Here are the teams that will front up in today's Group B World Cup match.

Spain: Casillas, Martinez, Iniesta, Rodriguez, Alonso, Ramos, Busquets, Alba, Costa, Silva, Azpilicueta.

Chile: Bravo, Mena, Isla, Silva, Sachez, Vidal, Vargas, Medel, Jara, Aranguiz, Diaz
