Indoor trampoline park Sky Zone is opening its first Canberra venue at Westfield Belconnen, just next to the bus interchange.

Sky Zone opened in Sydney and Brisbane earlier this year, and CEO Michael Schreiber says it's a great alternative to some more sedentary activities once the kids head on holidays.

"It's exciting, healthy, awesome fun and it appeals to lots of different users. If you can walk, you can jump," he said.

"In Sydney and Brisbane we've seen kids begging their parents to bring them along, and the parents are delighted to get them away from screens and into an activity. So it's really something that we think is on trend in terms of obesity issues out there."

The park includes the "Stratosphere" which is a whole series of interconnected trampolines including trampoline walls, "The Pit" for doing jumps with a soft landing in a foam pit, the "Sky Slam" for perfecting a slam dunk, the daredevil area "The Wall", and the dodgeball zone.

There's also three dedicated party rooms, plus a cafe with a healthy twist to it.

Schreiber says that the Sky Zone trampolines are, "a lot safer than home trampolines", and the venue's team of "Sky Guards" keep an eye on everyone.

Adults can also enjoy the benefits, by joining the dodgeball league or the Sky Fit exercise classes which launch in January.

"It's an unbelievable form of exercise, you burn 1000 calories an hour on a trampoline. It really activates your core very quickly," he said.

"When you jump on a trampoline it brings a smile to your face. It's that feeling of weightlessness, defying gravity, getting some air and it's a happy business so it's a lot of fun being involved in."
