A Brisbane mother has been charged with child cruelty after police allegedly found her young sons living home alone in squalid conditions.
The 20-year-old mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with two counts of cruelty to children and two counts of leaving a child unattended after police visited her Keperra home, in Brisbane’s north, in early May.
Police allegedly found the boys wearing only nappies “full of faeces”, after reportedly responding to a call from a concerned neighbour.
It is understood the boys are aged just two and four.
The house was filthy, with rubbish strewn across the floor and faeces smeared on the walls, police said.
Police who entered the house described the conditions as "putrid", with "overpowering odours" of urine, faeces and decaying food scraps.
The woman faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday, but was allowed to remain on bail.
She is due to face court again on June 10.
