Celebrate, in the bedroom

The centenary team just wants everyone to get some this Valentine's Day - centenary-branded condoms, that is.

It could well be the shag of the century.

The official centenary logo will be front and centre on boxes of condoms being distributed in Civic this week by Sexual Health and Family Planning ACT, as part of National Condom Day on February 14.

The centre celebrates the day each year with the creation of a themed pack of condoms attached to a silk rose.

Staff and volunteers will be distributing the roses in Petrie Plaza at lunch time on Thursday, as well as at official centenary events throughout the year.

Executive director Tim Bavinton said this year's theme was a no-brainer.

''With so much energy and focus on the celebrations of Canberra's 100th birthday, the team here at SHFPACT got to work on a design that incorporated the centenary theme with the usual health messages about the benefits of condom use,'' he said.

''February 14 is well known as a day when people focus on romance and their loved ones, and given the close relationship between sex and romance, National Condom Day is a great time to playfully introduce the topic of safe sex, whether people are just starting out in their relationship or have been together for years.''

A spokeswoman from the centenary team said it was pleased for the centenary logo to be associated with a responsible public health message.

''The Canberra centenary message is everywhere - even in the bedroom,'' she said.
