Form line makes for classic Doomben 10,000

RACE OF THE DAY

DOOMBEN 10,000

It's hard not to be impressed with the form in this group 1 sprint over 1350 metres.

Seven of the 16 starters are winners at the highest level, and all but three have won at group level, and one of those is Pampelonne, arguably the most exciting up-and-coming racehorse in the country with four wins and two placings from his six starts.

It means we're in for a thrilling dash for the cash.

Sea Siren was outstanding a fortnight ago, winning the BTC Cup.

She'll carry the same weight today against a largely similar field, but will have to become the first three-year-old filly in history to take out the race.

Pampelonne looms as a mighty chance having drawn brilliantly and the distance won't trouble him.

Whether he's up to this class just yet only time will tell, but his 3½ length win in last week's Scone Guineas suggests he's close.

Buffering was a short-priced favourite for the BTC before being scratched, and if he's back to his best then he'll come close.

In fact, it's hard to discount most runners in the race.

All come in with decent form and ability and capable of a big run.

BET OF THE DAY

WAZN

This emerging stayer looks perfectly set for this race after two solid runs back from a spell.

After an eye-catching first-up performance behind Star Of Octagonal over the Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury, Wazn almost brought home the bacon two weeks ago in the Rosehill Lord Mayors Cup (2000m).

Now up to 2200m, he looks primed to give this a shake.

It's a race that could decide just how far Wazn can go - win and there could be an attack on the big-money cups in the spring, lose and it could be back to mid-week races at Wyong.

Know Your Nags thinks he's on the up.

LAY DOWN YOUR LOBSTER

How to spend $20 on today's races:

$10 WIN, Doomben, race six, No.6, Wazn

They ran some very fast sectionals in the listed Lord Mayors Cup last start, and Wazn was the fastest thing coming home.

If he can match that performance today, there's not too much here to prevent Wazn from winning.

$5 WIN, Doomben, race seven, No.16, Sea Siren

No three-year-old filly has ever won this race. So what?

Sea Siren can be the first today based on her run in the BTC Cup.

Her form against Streama during the Sydney Carnival was outstanding, and there's no denying she's a very, very good horse.

Just how good? We'll find out today.

$5 WIN, Rosehill, race three, No.3, Rockafellacentre

With Gai Waterhouse in the form she's in, Nags could do a lot worse than backing one of her charges in Sydney today.

The challenge is finding the right horse.

Rockafellacentre is moving through the grades nicely and drops 3kg despite a win last start.

He'll go close again over the extra distance.
