Civic, Braddon next on NBN rollout
Central Canberra residents will soon be among some of the first in the nation to plug into the National Broadband Network.
The next stage of the rollout of the network across the territory will be taking in Civic and Braddon, adding to a handful of locations across the country.
Gungahlin was the first in the ACT to make the cut, with about 14,000 households to begin to be connected to the government-provided system in February.
The network is expected to reach all of Canberra within three years.
This week, NBN chief executive Mike Quigley announced that Civic and parts of Braddon would be next.
Federal Member for Fraser Andrew Leigh said it was an exciting time for local families and businesses, with residents expected to be connected in about 12 months.
Construction contractors will begin work in the area shortly, with several months of detailed surveys of the area, and an examination of the existing telecommunications infrastructure to follows.
This work is followed by the actual fibre hauling.
