A new cyber security centre has been launched at the University of New South Wales in Canberra as experts warn of the increasing threat to national security.

Director of the new Australian Centre for Cyber Security (ACCS) Professor Jill Slay says the centre is "Australia’s largest corps of cyber security researchers" with an unclassified "cyber range" allowing for wargaming so students can practice on cyber attacks in a controlled environment.
Research at the new centre will be split over five areas including computer and network security, risk management, international politics and ethics, law, and big data analytics for security. It will offer undergraduate and post-doctoral programs.
The ACCS will be located at the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra.
Assistant Minister for Defence Stuart Robert said he was encouraged to see universities taking on research into cyber security and said these sort of centres help "protect Australia from cyber threats that pose a significant challenge to national security".
Last year the Australian Federal Police, Royal Australian Air Force, the Reserve Bank of Australia and the spy agencies ASIO and ASIS were rocked by cyber attacks.
Network security experts have warned cyber security is an increasing threat to the nation, where fewer graduates are choosing to study more complex degrees in computer science.
