There's a message there

Good old-fashioned spin doesn't work any more - what's needed is more mumbles and less cohesion. A beginner's guide to implementing a no-bad-news message. By Rocco Fazzari.

The government has had to wear much bad news lately with manufacturing jobs going and car makers exiting.
Maybe one way to cushion the blow would be to adopt Scott Morrison’s strategy on boat arrivals - say nothing.
Undemocratic perhaps, but there are ways of delivering the message and allowing voters to decipher it.
Good old-fashioned spin doesn't work any more – what's needed is more mumbles and less cohesion.
This week’s video goes to the other extreme and provides a beginner’s guide to implementing a no-bad-news message.

  • Great animation.

With Scott Ludlam's speech up to 409,000 viewings in 4 days the Prime Minister could only dream of such figures. We tuned out long ago to PM/government spin. People are craving non-spin - as witnessed by the response to Mr Ludlam's 'Welcome to WA' to Tony Abbott.

    • Yes DeeDee the Greens are a "principled" lot, aren't they. Fancy them doing a preference deal with PUP.

    • Yep agreed people will listen to honesty and candid unadulterated thoughts.

    • To dRod,

So as a Greens voter you were disappointed they did a deal with PUP and you'd have voted for them otherwise? Yeah, right.

I'm not particularly PUP-friendly because of the mining link. But it is better to have Greens in than not. The other parties are far worse by a long shot (literally - look at Barry O'Farrell's deal with the Shooters).

"409,000 views. That means every Greens voter in Australia has viewed it 3 times.....".

Hmm, maybe, but I'd also include every worried Labor & Liberal MP and their donors & backers.

    • To Notlad,
Yep Greens voters viewed it - well let's face it technology is challenging for LNP followers and they may have trouble switching on a computer.
trouble is what Ludlam said is so close to the truth conservatives are worried their big lie is being uncovered.

    • DeeDee,

I am far from a Greens voter! I think they have been the most destructive "party" to hit every council and level of government. They claim the high moral ground, yet do whatever it takes to get into power (as evidenced by their hypocrisy in siding with one of Australia's largest coal miners). I have no time for the Greens and their communist supporters.

    • JW,

Well all those LNP people you refer to must be using less electricity than you Greens. But no doubt you run your computer purely on the wind....

    • DeeDee,

Don't worry petal, you'll hopefully get a job when you finish uni and after a while you too will grow out of the Greens!
