Chelsea Clinton, the only child of former US President Bill Clinton and ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, has announced that she is pregnant.
"Marc and I are so thrilled to be expecting our first child in the fall! Thank you for all of the kind words!" the 34-year-old said on Twitter.
A short time earlier, Ms Clinton made the surprise announcement at an event she was attending in New York City with her mother Hillary to discuss the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation’s efforts to advance women and girls, according to the New York Times.

"I just hope that I will be as good a mum to my child and, hopefully, children as my mum was to me," she said.
Mrs Clinton, who in the past has joked that she was impatient to become a grandmother, said she was "really excited" about the news, the New York Times reported.
Ms Clinton's husband, Marc Mezvinsky, stood in the back of the packed room at the Lower Eastside Girls Club.

Bill Clinton, 67, served for two terms as president ending in 2001.
Mrs Clinton, 66, has said she will decide later this year whether she will run for president in 2016. She sought the Democratic nomination for the office in 2008 and lost to Barack Obama.
Ms Clinton and Mr Mezvinsky married in July 2010.
Their child would eligible to seek the White House in the 2052 election cycle, because the US Constitution requires presidential candidates to be 35 years old.
