Model and boxer Lauryn Eagle rose to national fame when she came head-to-head with Bollywood star Tania Zaetta during the Channel Nine reality series The Celebrity Apprentice. The 24-year-old was ''fired'' from the show last week and Kate Waterhouse caught up with Eagle to chat about her arch-enemy, her recent split with boxer Lovemore Ndou and life after the show.
What was it like being on The Celebrity Apprentice?
It was so fun. I had a ball but it was a double-edged sword because I was exhausted. But I come from an athletic background and I love pushing myself. I thrive in that environment.
You didn't get along with Tania. Was that for real or were you playing it up for the cameras?
No, it was legitimate. What you saw on the show was me. I was just myself, to the point where I should have pulled back because I would forget half the time that the camera was rolling.
What is it like now when you see Tania off-air?
I'm not awkward around her, I just do my job. We don't talk outside of TV, so off camera we don't speak and then we go on camera and have to sort of play it up, but that's all right. I love people and I normally get along with everyone but when you're a little bit arrogant, that's when I tend to move in the other direction.
Will you continue your career in television?
Oh yes, I love it. It's definitely been a goal of mine to get into sports journalism. I've been doing things for Wide World of Sports and The Footy Show and I hope, with the Olympics coming up, we will be doing a lot of debate topics.
Do you get recognised everywhere you go now?
Yes. It's definitely different; I do get recognised, whereas before I wouldn't, really. Now people are, like, ''Can I get your photo?'' and I get so many comments about Tania. I was at a nail salon and I apologised because I pick my nails and then the lady next to me said, ''Yes, I would, too, if I had to work with Tania.''
Are you still in contact with your ex, Lovemore?
No. When you end a relationship, it has to be cut off. I'm in a better place now; I've started to love myself a bit more. I'm just trying to boost my confidence and achieve my goals.
Are you ready for a new relationship?
No. I just love having guy mates. I'm a bit of a tomboy. l love being a larrikin and being one of the boys.
Do you still model?
Well, I'm not a high-fashion, million-dollar model but I just used modelling to support my sporting career. Now I'd rather do an ambassadorship and be someone behind the brand rather than just being a face.
With boxing, were you ever worried it could hurt you and damage your modelling career?
Oh no, there is always Photoshop! With The Celebrity Apprentice, I had to stop boxing in case I got a black eye for TV. But I have come to my senses and it's probably not the best sport, so I've decided that I'll have one more fight, try to get a world title and then just quit.
