"We finish each other's sentences" ... Alex Perry, Sarah Murdoch and Charlotte Dawson.
The seventh series of Australia's Next Top Model premiered on Foxtel last week, so Kate Waterhouse caught up with judges Sarah Murdoch, Alex Perry and Charlotte Dawson to chat about the show, life off set and that controversial moment last year when Murdoch read out the wrong winner.
Are you guys all buddies outside the show?
Sarah: Oh yeah.

Alex: No, we hate each other! [laughs].
Sarah: We are like a family and it's got to the point now where we finish each other's sentences.
Sarah, after last year's drama, are you taking precautions when announcing the winner?
Alex: Let's just say there is an envelope!
Sarah: I can laugh about it now but what was interesting … was that those two girls handled themselves with such grace and defended me tirelessly.
How did you cope with all the flak?
Sarah: I felt more for the girls than myself. I was like, 'OK, quieten the audience down, now we have to change tack.'
Alex: You quietened them down all right - you could have heard a pin drop!
Charlotte: We went 'Oops!' and then went out and had a really great night and we didn't realise the magnitude of how people were going to react.
Charlotte, why do the models get close to you when you can be abrupt?
Charlotte: Because they know that it's tough love and … I'm the one who they call in the middle of the night. I've just had one of them stay in my apartment.
Alex, you're so tough on Charlotte but not with Sarah. Why is that?
Alex: Yeah, but [Sarah's] like a bit of a lamb, so you've got to go easy.
Charlotte: She's the lamb and I'm the cow! No, Alex and I go way back; he used to be my agent when I was modelling at Chadwick.
Alex: So when you know each other for that long it's kind of like brotherly-sisterly love.
Sarah, what is your career highlight?
Sarah: They laugh because I can relate to the very shy girls in the show and I was telling one of the girls, 'I understand what it's like to be shy, because for me backstage at a Chanel show with Linda [Evangelista], Christy [Turlington] and Helena [Christensen], I was just so shy', and these guys were going …
Alex: Oh sweetheart, you poor thing, backstage at Chanel!
Charlotte: Meanwhile, my career highlight was changing in the toilet at the Big W shoot!
Sarah, how do you balance ANTM with your family life?
Sarah: It's quite full on. I came back to work three weeks after having [daughter] Aerin and we sometimes have 18-hour days. You're filming, editing and doing publicity for the show all at the same time but luckily I love it and I spend every spare second I have with the kids.
Sarah, how are you coping with your family in the spotlight over the phone hacking scandal?
Sarah: There is no comment on that.
