Gold Logie winner Hamish Blake secretly wed his long-time girlfriend, the writer Zoe Foster, in an intimate ceremony on Tuesday, Blake's 31st birthday.
The high profile couple, who began dating after writing a dating guide together called Textbook Romance, announced the news on Twitter on Friday. Foster, 32, tweeted: @zotheysay said ‘‘I didn’t know heartpounding, feet-off-the-ground joy til I snuck off on Tuesday to marry my beautiful Hame ... And now, viva la funnymoon!’’.
While Blake said from @hamishandandy Twitter account: ‘‘If you heard a ‘‘whoop for joy’’ on Tuesday, it was me; I married my girl! I’m the happiest guy. She seems happy too (phew). #honeymooning.
Hamish and Andy.
The couple's spokesman told Fairfax Media: "The event was a private ceremony attended only by immediate family and a handful of witnesses. They are extremely happy, thank everyone for their well wishes, and are now using a well earned honeymoon overseas to recover from all the cake they ate."
They are believed to have signed an exclusive magazine deal for interviews and photos with Woman’s Day although a spokesman would only say ‘‘no comment’’ when contacted.
The radio funnyman apparently has a much softer side than his persona would have us think; a guest at the wedding revealed he melted hearts with several surprises for his bride on the big day. ‘‘He should have got a gold Logie for romance,’’ one guest said, ‘‘it was just beautiful’’.
In the lead-up to the wedding, Blake professed to a hectic schedule and that he was simply enjoying the engagement, throwing off any talk about the upcoming wedding date. Details have been kept closely under wraps in honour of the exclusive deal which is believed to be in the six figures.
Blake cheekily proposed, literally with a rock, at the end of last year - posting a snap of a rock balanced on Foster’s hand on Twitter, joking they would get their wedding dress cues from My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.
But there were no Christmas tree dresses in sight, according to the guest, who said the dress was more antique-styled, pretty, soft and feminine. The couture gown is believed to have been made by Paddington designer Steven Khalil - who has become the designer du jour for local celebrity brides in much the same way Vera Wang is internationally.
Khalil designed Kate Ritchie’s wedding gown as well as Logie frocks for Rebecca Gibney and Sophie Falkiner. He is also believed to be working for no fewer than three celebrity brides over the new year, including Rachael Finch, Zoe Balbi and Rebecca Breeds.
The couple temporarily moved to New York while Blake filmed Hamish and Andy’s Gap Year and have remained beneath the social circuit radar for the most part, preferring to stay low key. Blake is one of the nation’s most popular faces, with a fan base ranging from teens to grannies. Foster released her fourth book, a beauty guide titled Amazing Face, last year as well as her third work of fiction, The Younger Man, earlier this year.
