Actor Orlando Bloom says there is still a “deep love” between him and his ex Miranda Kerr – he says the couple are maintaining an “amicable” relationship for the sake of their son Flynn.

Talking to the The Times Magazine, the actor opened up about how his relationship with Kerr had changed.

“It's ever evolving," he said. "We're going to be in each other's lives for the rest of our lives and we have a child, so it's important to me that we respect each other as we always have and that Flynn feels that and understands that.

“There's a deep love between us.”

The couple married in 2010 and confirmed their separation late last year.

The 37-year-old actor told the magazine that his split from Kerr was “amicable”. He says his ex is “a very supportive and understanding woman”, but their relationship ended because they want different things “from our lives, our work”.

Bloom says the pair are still able to respect each other, and it's important they maintain their relationship for the sake of their three-year-old son Flynn.

Bloom is determined to be a permanent feature in his son's life, and even wants Flynn to experience “living at home, in England”.

“I've lived a very nomadic life, which I enjoy,” says the Lord of the Rings star.

“But now that I have my son it gets a lot more serious – I want to be in his life and have as much input and influence on his life as I can.”

The celebrity pair are currently both living in New York, and are often seen out and about together.

Their most recent public interaction was at Vanity Fair magazine's Oscar's after party.

Kerr was doing a television interview when Bloom interrupted and asked her how she was doing.

Bloom gave his 30-year-old ex a kiss on the cheek, and said “Hi. You look amazing.”

The former Victoria's Secrets angel appeared a little startled when he asked her if she was doing well. She responded with a "yes" before Bloom left and Kerr continued her interview.

A source told the MailOnline back then that the former couple are still close.

“Miranda and Orlando are in a really great space,” the source close to the couple said, “they're still very close and I'm sure they knew they'd cross paths sometime during the night. It's not an issue for them.”
