Sara Groen's Paris proposal
City of love ... Sara Groen and new fiance Clark Kirby in Paris.
Conditions couldn't have been better, although slightly predictable, when Seven's popular weather presenter Sara Groen heard those four magic words last week: will you marry me?
Groen's long-time beau Clark Kirby, the director of corporate strategy at Village Roadshow, got down on bended knee in Paris to pop the question during a romantic two-week European jaunt.
"After 10 years, I've learnt to know when Clark is hiding something ... and a trip to the most romantic city in the world dropped a few hints," Groen said, admitting she is still "on cloud nine".
"We were walking across the Ponte des Artes, a beautiful walking bridge across the Seine with the Notre Dame in the background, when Clark got down on his knee in front of many amused onlookers last Thursday around sunset.
"He had brought a lovely bottle of champagne, which we enjoyed on the bridge before heading to an incredible dinner at Pierre Gagnaire and an impromptu engagement party with strangers at Hotel Costes." While there were no tears of joy or fist-pumps into the air, Groen admits she got the giggles watching Clark - who she met as a student in her uni days - "fumble around in his pocket" for the sparkler. It's lovely to see the sun shining on Groen, who returns to our screens tomorrow night, after a more than challenging year on the home front, with the loss of her brother. But there are only blue skies forecast for January next year, when a "relaxed and intimate" wedding is set to take place. The only question that remains is whether the girl at the centre of "hairgate" will keep her much-hyped do long or short.
