Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch has slammed Scientology following news of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes's divorce.
The News Corp chief executive describes Scientology as a "very weird cult" where he believes Cruise is "number two or three" in the hierarchy.
"Scientology back in news. Very weird cult, but big, big money involved with Tom Cruise either number two or three in hiearchy (sic)," Murdoch told his more than 260,000 followers on Sunday.
"Watch Katie Holmes and Scientology story develop. Something creepy, maybe even evil, about these people," Murdoch added.
The media baron himself has been hit with a barrage of attacks from fellow Twitter users following his Scientology tweet.
He responded: "Since Scientology tweet hundreds of attacks. Expect they will increase and get worse and maybe threatening. Still stick to my story."
Cruise and Holmes announced on Friday they were calling it quits after five years of marriage, ending an unexpected love story dogged by tabloid rumours.
"Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children," Amanda Lundberg, Cruise's representative, said in a statement. "Please allow them their privacy to work this out."
