Just this year alone she made headlines for suggesting there may be a Kurt Cobain biopic in the works, 20 years after his death and weighed in on the MH 370 disappearance, claiming she knew where the plane was. Love said she was “making reporters do their jobs better. I was only trying to help with the plane,” in an op-ed for xoJane.com.

On the eve of her latest Australian tour, which kicks off in Perth on Wednesday, Love has spoken to The Sunday Times in London and given one of her most insightful and wide ranging interviews yet. Here are 11 highlights from her most recent long winded chat.

1. Prince Andrew once showed up on her doorstep in LA looking for a party.

“So he rang the bell, but my antipodean nanny wouldn’t get up because she’s anti-monarchy, so I had to go down in my slippers and bathrobe. I had all these Jubilee mugs with pictures of the Queen on, so I made him a really good pot of tea and I hand him a mug with his mum on it, and he saw the joke. He asked, ‘What do you do all day?’ which I thought was just nerdy. I said, ‘What do you do all day, Prince?”

2. She lost $29 million of Nirvana’s money.

“I lost about $US27 million – I know that’s a lifetime of money to most people, but I’m a big girl, it’s rock’n’roll, it’s Nirvana money, I had to let it go. I make enough to live on, I’m financially solvent, I focus on what I make now.”

3. She wanted to be a stage actress in London’s West End but a director rejected her.

“The director didn’t want me. There was a question about whether I could be disciplined enough to do eight shows a week. When I didn’t get it, it broke my heart – worse than not getting the guy... I met the guy who played Porgy in Porgy and Bess at a party in New York and he said basically it was going round the beau monde every single night, having a blast! He said it was better than being a rock star! And you don’t have to get on a bus!”

4. Cocaine allowed her to do better math after she discovered there were 167 bank accounts she knew nothing about and decided her lawyers and accountants were lying to her.

“I had to run very fast to look after my money and I felt cocaine helped me do that. So I started taking cocaine and that turned into nine months of crack.”

5. She wrote the alleged note found on Cobain’s body.

“Her publicist told me [The Sunday Times reporter Lynn Barber] beforehand on no account to mention it, because it would upset her, but being Love, she brings it up herself and says it was obvious that she’d written the note – it was her handwriting.”

6. She prefers an espresso martini to a cup of coffee.

“A very good mood stabiliser because it contains vodka and coffee.”

7. Love will have plastic surgery in six years time.

“When my looks are shot – which I reckon will be in about six years – I’ll have plastic surgery here on my chin, and they can pull my cheeks back, but I’m not ready for that. And because of the smoking, the mouth is starting to give.”

8. KFC wanted to use a Nirvana song.

“I’ve protected it [the Nirvana catalogue] from everything from Kentucky Fried Chicken commercials to movies about board games. We’ve been offered $6 million for 18 seconds of one Nirvana song and I turned it down.”

9. Prescription drugs made her write emails and tweets which resulted in lawsuits.

“It’s [Adderall] a very potent speed drug – it makes me crazy, it makes me write long, unintelligible emails and get on Twitter and say something nasty and then I get sued.

10. Frances will only have access to her father’s legacy when she turns 40.

“But there’s this myth out there – put out by Frances’ lawyers – that Frances runs the catalogue, which is absolute nonsense. When she’s 40, she becomes a member of the board and she has a vote, but not now.”

11. She complied when she was admitted to a psychiatric clinic for three days on her 40^th birthday because she was craving a cigarette.

“I wanted a cigarette so bad I just kept saying, ‘Yes sir, no sir’, so they had to let me out. My friend was waiting for me with an ambulance and a carton of cigarettes. Oh, that first hit was so wonderful!”
