At the All England Club, tennis may be the thing to see, but inside the royal box is where you want to be seen.

When it comes to celebrity spotting, the exclusive enclave is as diverse as a box of chocolates. While the 74-seat stand was once strictly reserved for royalty, heads of state and the upper echelon of the British Armed Forces, today it is the sporting equivalent of the Academy Awards.

Among the token royals at the Wimbledon finals at the weekend were the titans of business, a man who has drunk his own urine and a former Spice Girl.

Joining the Duke of Kent, Princess Eugenie, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge – who wore the teal Jonathan Saunders dress she wore during the Jubilee Tour of 2012 – were many famous faces including many Australians.

Seven Group Holding executive chairman Kerry Stokes, US Vogue chief Anna Wintour, tennis great Rod Laver and actor Chris Hemsworth were seated next to David and Victoria Beckham, adventurer Bear Grylls, and actors Bradley Cooper, Orlando Bloom and Samuel L. Jackson to watch the women’s and men’s singles finals.

The Middleton family was out in force with Pippa, Carole and Michael all in attendance, albeit seated several rows back from William and Kate’s front row seats.

Jackman, and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness, took selfies before the match between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, while Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky cuddled.

As the victor Djokovic taste-tested the court, a tradition when he wins on grass, guests of the royal box retired to enjoy strawberries and cream and a spot of tea inside the Clubhouse – a Wimbledon tradition since 1922.
