Her well-honed figure is the envy of many a woman so it was only a matter of time for Cameron Diaz to capitalise on some of her best assets.

The Hollywood A-lister has announced that she is to add 'author' to her list of accolades, and will next year launch her writing career with a book about fitness.

The book's publishers, Harper Collins, say the Charlie's Angels star hopes to "engage and empower women" by sharing tips on looking and feeling good.

But while some may relish the guide, it may not be to everyone’s liking.

The 39-year-old will give advice on nutrition and general wellbeing as well as exercise and has in the past said that when she was younger she never worried about her weight or what she ate.

The actress has since changed her habits and sported rippling muscles at a Golden Globes after party in January, sparking some commentators including the US’s ABC News to ask whether she has gone too far with the iron-pumping.

Speaking with Elle magazine last year, the LA native opened up about her new-found fondness of the gym.

"I love it. I have never, ever watched what I eat in my life, but I do now," she said.

"I'm off the fried foods. I'm very thoughtful about what I eat. If you're gonna do heavy lifting, and you want to stay small, you have to watch what you eat.

"You have to give your body the right nutrients and really think about what's best for it."

The blonde beauty has always lived an active lifestyle - and her fitness kick and chiselled figure may in no small part be down to her relationship with Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, whom Diaz dated until last June.
