You probably haven't because for all the faults in this country, we live in a land girt by sea and clean drinking water.

Therese Kerr, mother of clean eating supermodel Miranda, missed that memo.

The alternative heath advocate and creator of a chemical free personal care range was featured as an "author and public speaker" in last week's Sunday Life magazine, which, like this website, is published by Fairfax Media, where she listed her daily intake of food and nutrients for the "My Day on a Plate" section.

Her menu would make "activated almonds" nut Pete Evans blanch.

She starts her day like anyone else dedicated to good digestion with a glass of warm water and lemon at 6.30am before whipping up some probiotic yoghurt – "homemade kefir" – and a green smoothie at 6.50am using only certified organic green vegetables, coconut water and Kelly Slater's favourite snack, chia seeds.

This all sounds reasonable for a wealthy woman who takes good care of her health considering 14 years ago she was suffering with tumours on her spleen, however it's her 7.20am entry that had social media stumped.

"A glass of reverse osmosis (alkalised, mineralised) water with magnesium powder, vitamin C powder, zinc and selenium liquid," she said.

According to consumer advocacy group Choice and certified health professionals it's a big waste of time and water as the process takes regular H2O and passes it through a thin membrane at high pressure.

"Most contaminants are physically blocked and washed away. It uses a lot of energy and water; up to 85 per cent of the water can be wasted. However, it does remove a wide range of contaminants," Choice stated.

These tap water "contaminants" would be minimal given we have The Australian Drinking Water Guidelines that state water "should contain no harmful concentrations of chemicals or pathogenic micro-organisms, and ideally it should be aesthetically pleasing in regard to appearance, taste and odour".

Kerr's "reverse osmosis water" is a relatively new addition to her diet.

In 2014 she gave a similar interview to Popsugar where she spoke of her early morning juices and love for organic produce.

She also outlined her strict eating pattern which saw her limit her solid food intake until midday before enjoying her last morsel, usually a quinoa salad, before 8pm.

"I really aim to limit my food intake to a maximum of eight hours in total, as this follows the digestive pattern in my body. If I start eating at midday, I make sure the last thing I eat is before 8pm. With starting my eating regime so late in the day and having the incredible nutrients I do, I find I don't really get hungry," she said.
