Super Bowl XLVII: The highlights

Record-breaking plays, a blackout and a performance by Beyonce were just a few highlights from America's biggest sporting event.

Beyonce has been criticised by animal rights activists for sporting an outfit made from python and iguana at her half-time Super Bowl show.

The singer took to the stage at the Superdome in New Orleans in a black bodysuit by designer Rubin Singer, made of python skin, panelled iguana, and leather.

Now bosses at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have slammed Beyonce's costume choice, just weeks after she was criticised for wearing a mink coat at US President Barack Obama's Inauguration ceremony.

A PETA spokesperson told the New York Daily News: "We would take a bet that if Beyonce watched our video exposes, she'd probably not want to be seen again in anything made of snakes, lizards, rabbits or other animals who died painfully.

"Today's fashions are trending toward humane vegan options, and Beyonce's Super Bowl outfit missed the mark on that score."
