Derek Zoolander pulls best Blue Steel on the cover of Vogue with Penelope Cruz

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour shows she is just in touch with her humorous side as she is with her fashion by having Derek Zoolander, AKA Ben Stiller, pose for his first ever cover.

The coveted spot, usually kept for the biggest A-listers like Cindy Crawford, Princess Diana, Beyonce, Nicole Kidman, Gisele Bundchen and Naomi Campbell to name drop just a few, showed the movie character pulling his favourite Blue Steel look alongside co-star Penelope Cruz for the February edition.

Fifteen years after the first Zoolander hit screens, VH1's three-time male Model of the Year proves he hasn't lost it just yet as he shows who's boss in front of the camera.

Dressed in matching blue ensembles, Cruz drapes one arm around the ridiculously good-looking poser in a Ralph Lauren Collection cut-out dress, while he rocks colourful bird printed Dolce & Gabbana suit.

"So hot right now! Ben Stiller and Penelope Cruz rock the new Zoolander," the cover words read.

Gigi Hadid, Jourdan Dunn and Joan Smalls also join Stiller inside the publications for some comical pictures, while the who's who of the fashion world will feature in the film.

"I was thrilled to say yes to Ben," Vogue reports Marc Jacobs as saying. "I thought the first one was hilarious."

But Chanel's creative director Karl Lagerfeld refused to be a part of the cult-hit movie that also stars Owen Wilson, as Hansel.

"He's iconic," Stiller says of Lagerfeld. "It breaks my heart. Maybe if we ever do another ..."

Other celebrities to star include Benedict Cumberbatch, Justin Bieber, Kristen Wiig, Demi Lovato, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West, while Will Ferrell will reprise his role as the villain Mugatu.

Despite other big name movies including Dodgeball, Night at the Museum, Meet the Parents, and Meet the Fockers, Zoolander is the one he is most proud of.

Zoolander 2 hits Australian cinemas on February 11.
