Did Cara Delevingne break dress code by wearing runners to the White House?

What do you wear when visiting US President Barack Obama's home? Well, for British model and actress, Cara Delevingne, it's a mac, LBD, and black and white Puma creepers by her good friend, Rihanna.

The 23-year-old, who is set to star in one of the most highly anticipated films of 2016, Suicide Squad, visited the White House for a Funny or Die roundtable discussion on climate change and opted for the chic look with a casual twist.

The model did what she does best, posing in no less than six shots (five head-to-toe) around Obama's pad, not only giving great advertisement to the Diamond singer's already sold-out $170 creepers, but also managing to get in a dig at presidential hopeful Donald Trump too.

Posing outside the Oval Office on her tippy toes, she wrote: "Let's see how you feel about climate change in 10 years Mr Trump! It is painfully real," she started out, before challenging him to copy her pose: "Also, can Donald Trump do this???? #itrumptrump #ichallengetrump #climatechangeexistsfool."

Dress code? What dress code?

Delevingne isn't the first celebrity to push ensemble boundaries or totally give no heed to unwritten dress codes. Miley Cyrus is a too obvious example, so take Kanye West instead.

He too opted for a laid-back casual look when he met President Obama alongside wife Kim Kardashian West in 2014.

In contrast to POTUS, who wore a dark suit with a grey and blue striped tie, white collared shirt, and an American flag pin, the Gold Digger singer wore a short sleeved, button-down, white shirt – with not even a jacket in sight, never mind a tie.

Kardashian West also looked a little risque for her meeting with one of the most powerful men in the world, in a thin, nude-coloured body top that left little to the imagination. But unlike her husband, she gave her look a smart edge by covering her arms with a black blazer slung over her shoulders.

It was a completely different look to West's good friends, Jay Z and Beyonce, who wore their Sunday best when hanging with Obama.

Queen Letizia of Spain has been receiving some flak for her choice of dress – or what some people might deem lack thereof when tending to official duties.

On a recent trip to visit the Senado Palace in Madrid, she opted for a white mini-dress with two front pocket detailing that led to some criticism.

Despite also wearing sheer black tights to partially cover her incredibly toned legs, royal news site Royalista says the short hemline "sparked some debate with some calling it way too short while others are complimenting the Queen for her fresh and chic look saying 'the rank of a Queen is not measured by the length of a skirt.'"

Conservative Kate Middleton would never push such boundaries.

There's also the completely blurred lines for some celebrities – as seen recently on singer and former Disney star, Selena Gomez.

Justin Bieber's ex and Taylor Swift's bestie slipped on a navy, Derek Rose London pyjamas for a press junket in Paris. She dressed up the lounge wear with a slick of red lipstick and heels.

Of course, it can go the other way too, as seen with James Packer's girlfriend, Mariah Carey.

It seems the word 'casual' is not even in the singer's vocabulary with her once sporting what looked like an evening gown to push her twins, Monroe and Moroccan, four, on the swings at the park.

The Australian billionaire's other half also rode the subway in a blue gown, and threw on a backless, printed piece to be by the pool.

Celebrities are showing a rise in a trend for casual fashion at formal events – but, hey, it's their world, and everyone else is just living in it.
