"I just want to look sexually empowered and tough," she told Fairfax Media as she put the finishing touches on her gothic Barbie get-up complete with a blonde wig, leather gloves and rings she purchased in New York's West Village. She referred to them as "Givenchy like". I'd call them "dangerous cutlery".

The 25-year-old, who splits her time between New York and Melbourne (where her lover, 71-year-old Carlton benefactor Geoffrey Edelsten is based), is an aspiring fashion designer and created the flesh-baring gown herself as an ode to Thierry Mugler, the designer who created the dress Demi Moore wore in the film Indecent Proposal.

Subtlety is not her strength, a bit like how interpersonal skills are not Mick Malthouse's.

"Australia needs a Lady Gaga."

"I've heard this is Australia's biggest fashion event, it's about football right?" she asked while steadying herself on a pair on sky-high glitter encrusted Roberto Cavalli heels and sipping a tequila sunrise.

She's never heard of Rebecca Judd - "You know that one who reads the weather sometimes," Edelsten offered - and was not worried about being compared to the other wives and girlfriends at AFL's night of nights.

"You just got to embrace your own style. I'm not trying to be crazy, I actually like my look," she said.

However there is one particular wife, or more precisely "ex-wife", she appeared to channel.

While Edelsten's former flame, Brynne, made her Brownlow debut in 2009 with her body covered in diamantes, Grecko ran with the trend and covered her face with the stick-on jewels.

Grecko is not alone in trying to stand out, this season fashion and style has infiltrated the AFL in ways not seen since Warwick Capper made his debut.

Not only are player's wives and girlfriends at the fashion fore, but some of the game's greats including Sydney Swans star - and Australian of the Year - Adam Goodes and Geelong's main man, Jimmy Bartel have fronted campaigns for a range of shoes, skin care and clothing lines.
