Grammys: Best & worst dressed

While Daft Punk owned the 2014 Grammys musically, who wore it right? And who wore it wrong? Take a look and see for yourself.

The fashion circus nearly always runs rings around the females on the red carpet. But, at this year's Grammy Awards, man-du-jour Pharrell Williams was the centre of the fashion focus.

Known for his quirky style, WIlliams, who was nominated for seven Grammys, wore a red zip-up sports jacket with jeans and a white T-shirt. Innocuous enough, if a little informal, for the music industry's night of nights.

But it's his large, lumpy hat that has the Twitterers tittering. Red-carpet arrivals were still in full swing and his hat already its own Twitter account. It now has more than 5000 followers and counting. Pharrell's hat (the Twitter account) understandably wondered whether anyone else could get away with the look.

Others were left wondering too, but mainly they were wondering what was underneath the hat and who the singer and hip-hop artist was trying to channel with his hip hat.

Another hatted star, Madonna, also amassed attention. The singer always makes a splash with her outfits, but interestingly, it wasn't her gangster-style accessorising that made her stand out.

She wore a ridiculous gold grille on her teeth and some fingerless, jewel-encrusted gloves. But it was her Ralph Lauren tuxedo, cutely matching with eight-year-old son David's, that gave the queen of pop style reign on the red carpet.

Taylor Swift and John Legend's wife, Chrissie, also nailed their metallic looks, with Swift quipping that she was fairly sure her Gucci dress was "bulletproof".

Katy Perry struck the right note with her lyrical Valentino dress, which was lucky as the star didn't win a Grammy for her songs.

Paula Patton looked a little girl-gone-wild in top-to-toe shiny zebra-print. She also rocked an interesting vac-packed, pressed-breast look the previous night at the Pre-Grammys Gala.

But she and husband Robin Thicke looked happy enough and put on a united front in the face of yet another allegation about Thicke's wandering ways.

Paris Hilton may have missed the ice rink when she was dropped off at the red carpet in a frothy, embellished, sparkly white dress. She also, by the looks of things, missed her undies, which were not visible beneath the low, sheer cutouts.

Also notably missing was Miley Cyrus, whose pink Calvin Klein dress and fluffy coat at the Pre-Grammys Gala generated a buzz. Nowhere to be seen, much to the dismay of the Twittersphere. Perhaps she was hiding under Pharrell's hat.
