WHILE they may not produce the most attractive tan lines, monokinis are the hot swimwear trend for summer. Expect to see the one-piece swimsuit - with large cut-outs at the sides, front or back - everywhere from the beach to the bar this season.
The Jets swimwear design director, Jessika Allen, said the monokini was a popular choice for summer because of its versatility.
''The cut-out one-piece looks sexy at the beach but you can add a long maxi skirt and they are perfect for barbecues, pool parties or even heading out to a bar,'' she said.
Sophie Clark, David Jones's general manager womenswear, said monokinis had been selling well, particularly among the music-festival set, with options from Jets, Carla Zampatti and Isola.
''It is a fashion statement as well as functional swimwear,'' she said.
