The 25-year-old Fifty Shades of Grey star also showed she's just as comfortable with BDSM as she is playing a brat after she snapped and rolled her eyes at her mum, Melanie Griffith, during an awkward interview on the red carpet at the Academy Awards.

"I don't think I can," Griffith told Good Morning America host Lara Spencer when asked if she will watch the racy film in which her little girl is flogged, bound and emotionally abused by an older lover.

"Maybe one day," Johnson demanded.

"I think it would be strange," the Working Girl star protested.

"No. I don't think so," Johnson interjected, "I think maybe one day you can see it and it'll be fine."

"She's a really good actress, I don't need to see that to know how good she is," Griffith continued.

"Alright! You don't have to see it. Jesus!" the artist, formerly known as Anastasia Steele, snapped.

To her credit, Griffith laughed and maintained the frozen smile and clenched jaw of a mother who wasn't going to make a scene, but you can guarantee she will be giving Johnson a very stern talking too in the car on the way to post-Oscars hotspot, In-N-Out Burger, following the ceremony tonight.

Meanwhile, Johnson looked hotter than Tabasco sauce in a red Saint Laurent column gown which she accessorised with several subtle tattoos and her risque demeanour.

Her first red carpet interview was cut short after her chat with Ryan Seacrest went a little too far for primetime TV in the US.

"I heard you kept one of the props from Fifty Shades of Grey?" he asked.

"Yeah, I kept a flogger. Can you say that on TV?" she giggled.

"You just did. Thanks for stopping by," he said before pushing her away.
