Tomb Raider's reboot this week saw a tougher, leaner and grittier version of the game's iconic animated heroine. But Croft isn't the only character whose look has morphed with time, technology and trends.

LARA CROFT
Like every Gen X-er she's had some sartorial hits and misses. Who could forget those John Lennon-indie rocker glasses from the early 2000s and the tendrils of hair framing her face like two pieces of cold linguini?
Gone are the over-plucked, drawn-on eyebrows and in their place are two on-trend Cara Delevingne-inspired slugs. The trademark crop top and cargo shorts have also been retired and replaced with fur-trimmed fatigues.
While Lara 2.0 is certainly grittier, she could also now double as a poster girl for CrossFit, aerial yoga or any other fitness fad thanks to her impressive body definition and athletic ability.
WONDER WOMAN
Over her 73 years, DC's Wonder Woman has experimented with her look. How she's fights crime and flies her invisible plane in a boob tube is impressive, but so too is her continued evolution into becoming stronger and more Amazonian after every edition.
For her debut cover in 1942 she donned a mini skirt while riding horseback.
By 1993 she was boasting "thighbrows" long before the Kardashians in a high-cut one-piece, and in 2011 long pants were introduced to her work wardrobe rotation. Nowadays, thanks to Australian illustrator Jason Badower, she's sans pants but in a fuller brief for her other gig – moonlighting as a marriage celebrant for gay couples.
DISNEY
Disney's leading females have moved with the times. Gone are the helpless, ballgown-clad heroines of the 1950s and in their place are active, opinionated leading ladies.
The days of the often unconscious Snow White and glass slipper enthusiast Cinderella were done the minute the Frozen gang, Mulan and Brave's Merida smashed through the glass ceiling.
The tight hair styles ready for a crown have been replaced with loose, unruly tresses of free-spirited females and superhero-esque capes now adorn dresses of the animated stars like Elsa.
Demand in the one-10 age bracket for the blue gown is so high some eBay entrepreneurs now sell about seven every 24 hours.
