Federal parliamantarian Kate Ellis will already have to contend with an election next year, now she intends to be a bride as well.
The Federal childcare minister is to wed her boyfriend of two years, Rupert Murdoch's "golden boy" David Penberthy, after the high profile journalist popped the question.
Penberthy, who is editor in chief of several Murdoch websites including news.com.au, told PS he had been planning the proposal for several months, choosing to pop the question while sitting atop a picnic blanket at sunset on Aldinga Beach, south of their hometown, Adelaide.
"We are both very happy and very excited. I had been planning it for a while, I chose the ring and she loved it. It all went very well," Penberthy said.
"It will happen next year, and depending on when the election looks like being called we will decide on a date."
The wedding is expected to take place in Adelaide.
It will be the first marriage for Ellis and the second for Penberthy, who has two children from a previous relationship.
Penberthy and Ellis have become regular fixtures on the Canberra cocktail circuit, quickly assuming the mantle of a new power couple on the national stage.
