Mystery surrounds Portia de Rossi's reported month-long stay in rehab

Mystery surrounds Portia de Rossi's month-long stay in a Malibu rehab clinic.

Reports claim the Australian actress and wife of US talk show queen Ellen DeGeneres "secretly" checked into the Passages Malibu rehab clinic for a 30-day program in May.

Other celebrities who have reportedly been treated at the facility include Mel Gibson and David Hasselhoff.

US magazine InTouch is reporting that DeGeneres visited her wife every weekend during her stay. DeGeneres and de Rossi began dating in 2005 and were married in 2008. The couple visited Australia for the first time just last year when DeGeneres brought her program to Australia.

Neither de Rossi nor DeGeneres have made any public comment on the reports, however Passages is a clinic which primarily deals with substance abuse issues.

The American showbiz media has been rife with reports in recent weeks that the couple's relationship has hit a rocky patch, with some outlets predicting a divorce was imminent amid claims DeGeneres had struck up close relationships with a variety of female celebrities, from Modern Family's Sofia Vergara to Transformers star Megan Fox.

Back in 2000 de Rossi sought treatment for an eating disorder after her weight reportedly dropped to just 37 kilograms. She has previously written about her battle with eating disorders in her 2010 autobiography Unbearable Lightness which she suffered throughout her teenage years and as she found fame on US television.

The 41-year-old actress, who was born in Geelong and changed her name from Mandy Rogers to pursue an acting career, is best known in the US for her roles as lawyer Nelle Porter in the TV series Ally McBeal and more recently as Lindsay Funke in the sitcom Arrested Development.
