Stephanie and Martin first met in 2002 when their friends started dating but sparks didn't fly until their second meeting years later. “We met again in 2005 at a (now mutual) friend’s 21st birthday and found that we had definite chemistry and many similar interests,” says Stephanie. When they told their parents about their relationship they found out they actually had met much earlier in life. We were amazed to hear that our mothers used to work together when we were four years old, and we would frequently run into each other at local shops and movie theatres as children!”
Martin planned an elaborate proposal while they were on holiday in New York City. He booked a table at one of the city’s top restaurant, Daniel, and proposed when the waiter brought out a token engagement ring on a platter. “After the restaurant there was a limousine waiting outside which took us around to the a few of the city’s hottest cocktail bars which Martin had contacted earlier that week until the early hours of the morning,” says Stephanie.
The wedding day
They chose a theme of all their favourite things which was reflected in the bonbonnieres (lipgloss, scotch, honey, lollies), table names (cities, bars, drinks), their song choices etcetera. Their 82 guests joined them for the ceremony at the chapel at Trinity Grammar in Summer Hill and then for the reception at Quay restaurant in The Rocks. “The entire day was perfect,” says Stephanie. “The highlight overall for us was really just getting family and friends together, seeing new friendships form, and seeing everyone so happy”.
Stephanie wore the Geena gown by Sottero and Midgley – a strapless, A-line gown with a full skirt. The corset-style bodice featured beaded embellishments with Swarovski crystal detailing.
It was a two-tiered cake decorated with silver and white stripes (top tier) and a white piped pattern on silver icing (bottom tier). It came from Faye Cahill Cake Design in Marrickville.

They went on a five week round-the world trip to Vietnam, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the Maldives, and the United States.
