Andrew and Sophia met in 2005 while they were both studying journalism at the University of Queensland, but it wasn't until five years later that they started dating. A year after they first met they both moved to different cities for work – Sophia to Bundaberg and Andrew to Cairns. They began to hang out socially again when Sophia was also offered a job in Cairns. “But it wasn't until we were both living in Brisbane in 2010, that I finally agreed to go out for a 'friendly drink' with him,” says Sophia. “Then he convinced me to go on a proper date with him and that was pretty much it for both of us,” says the 27 year-old. “Highlights of being with Andrew include: laughing a lot - at everything, but mainly ourselves; we also both like to talk a lot - in fact when we are together we hardly shut up! Andrew lights up my world - he's positive and charismatic and makes everything seem possible.”
The proposal came at Christmas time while they were on a family holiday in Byron Bay. Andrew had to opt for plan B – at the holiday house before the family arrived – because the beach was wet and windy. “It was a huge surprise and wonderful because we got to celebrate with everyone afterwards,” says Sophia.
The wedding day
They chose a theme of relaxed romance and used bold romantic colours to create it. They made their vows in front of 115 guests at the Greek Orthodox church where Sophia was christened. One of the highlights for Sophia was seeing Andrew when she walked into the church. “He looked so happy,” she says. The reception was held at Bretts Wharf which had a great ambience and where everyone hit the dance floor.
Sophia wore an ivory tulle, V-necked gown by Amaline Vitale from Armadale in Melbourne. It featured a lace overlay on the bodice with Swarovski crystal detailing.
It was a three-tiered cake decorated with ivory fondant icing. It was made by Vas from Frosted Indulgence in Highgate Hill.
The photos were taken by Veronica Sagredo from Blueclick Photography.
They went to the Greek islands of Santorini and Kythera.
