“We met in high school and decided to be best friends forever!” says Amelia. She literally sent him a text message saying that. “So corny I know,” she says. But it wasn’t until after they finished school that they started dating properly. Once Amelia had finished her degree they moved to Spain together as Tobias is a professional indoor soccer player and was given a contract there. “Just being together is the highlight of my life,” says Amelia.
The proposal story begun while they were travelling in a campervan around Europe before returning to Australia. While they were in London, Tobias got in contact with a woman at the Tiffany & Co shop and had to create a secret email account to converse about the ring. Once he had the ring, it was just as hard to keep it a secret. Being in such close proximity for four months, Tobias made do by hiding the ring in his sock. They stopped in Andorra between France and Spain and went for a walk up a mountain to a secluded lake. “He started asking and I cried a lot!” says Amelia.
The wedding day
Their French provincial style wedding was held at Hopewood Country House in Bowral where 150 guests attended. “I walked down the aisle to ‘Marry Me’ by Train but recorded in secret by me,” she says. They arranged for the guests to play board games while they were having photos taken before the reception began. The day had a lot of handmade touches such as Amelia making the bridesmaids’ dresses with the help of her maid of honour and personalising each guest’s place card.
Amelia wore a custom-made gown which she designed herself. It was a layered white silk A-line gown with a full skirt and a V-neckline. It featured a white French lace overlay to create sleeves with flower detailing on the skirt.
It was a three-tiered cake made by Mark Stone from the Southern Highlands.
The photos were taken by Rosalie Sweeney Photography.
They returned to Andorra.
