Peter and Belinda went to the same primary school but didn’t know each other as they were a year apart. They finally met through Belinda’s sister ten years later. They began their romance walking around the steps of the Opera House, so it was fitting that they then chose to have their wedding there. “Challenging the tradition, Peter asked my family if he could take our family name to honor the role my family has played in our relationship. It says a lot about Pete’s character and how we like to do things differently. And that’s how we became Mr & Mrs Drew,” says Belinda.
The proposal happened a few nights before they left Sydney to move to New York. “He organised a seaplane flight over Sydney Harbour at sunset claiming it was a way to bon voyage Sydney, he had me fooled,” says Belinda. They promptly turned their farewell party into an engagement party the following night.
The wedding day
Six months later they returned to Sydney to make their vows in front of their absolute nearest and dearest – they had 36 guests in total. “The only vision we had for our wedding was wanting everyone to fit on one table enjoying Sydney's best food and wine - Aria was the perfect choice,” says Belinda. The guests were entertained by a French jazz band throughout the night and were given a Louis Vuitton New York City guide to entice them to come and visit. When they returned to New York, they frocked up again for their friends who couldn’t make it to the Sydney celebration.
Belinda wore a strapless, silk organza gown with a trumpet skirt and a sheer neckline. It was designed and made by Selia Yang, a leading New York designer.
Instead of a cake they had three rounds of dessert which culminated in a white marshmallow macaroon tower made by Patisse in Waterloo.

They went to Mexico before returning to New York for their second ceremony.
