BONITA BLIGHT AND BILL LA
LYREBIRD FALLS, KALLISTA, VIC
Bill and Bonita met through friends when he was a professional fire performer and Bonita was learning for fun. “We were friends for a while before we became a couple,” says Bonita. “Our lifestyles are very compatible; we enjoy a lot of the same things, so we can appreciate a lot of shared experiences,” she says. “A fun part of our life together is going on road trips and to music festivals together.”
Bill proposed while they were away on a holiday in Vietnam. Bonnie had her suspicions about a proposal and resolved that if he had not asked her by the last day of their trip, she would ask him. But it didn’t take long before Bill found the right moment to bring out the ring – at a local orphanage where they were helping out. Just as they were leaving, Bill asked her to sit on the play equipment with her, saying he’d make it “worth her while”. He proposed, saying he wanted to pop the question at the orphanage because one of the things he loved about her was her compassion, and so it seemed apt. All she could do was cry and hug him.
The wedding day
They chose a natural and earthy style to accentuate the beauty of the natural surroundings of Kallista and tried to add a touch of fun. They asked their 100 guests to request songs for the reception when they sent their RSVPs. “It was a lot of fun seeing people's faces light up as their song was played, and getting up to have a dance with them,” says Bonita. Another highlight of the evening was that the two made sure they took some time during the reception to sit outside together. “With all of the formalities of the day completed, it was very special to have a moment that just belonged to us,” she says.
Bonita wore a strapless, A-line Maggie Sottero gown with a sweetheart neckline and ruched bodice. It was made from satin and with a chiffon overlay and featured a court train and lace-up back.
It was a three-tiered chocolate mud cake with ivory icing and chocolate swirls that matched the invitations.
The photos were taken by Lizzy C Photography.
They are planning to go to Thailand and Laos early next year.
