The meeting
Laura and Gareth met six years ago while they were both working at Prime News in Orange. “Gareth was a cameraman and I worked there part-time as a television journalist while I was studying at university in Bathurst,” says Laura. They got to know each other as friends first – through long conversations on car trips to places such as Parkes and Forbes. When they finished working together Gareth asked her on their first date. “I found out at the wedding that it was no coincidence we were always rostered on together at work – Gareth made sure of it!” says the 27 year-old.

The proposal
The marriage question came as a surprise to Laura during a trip to Mudgee. “He had planned a picnic but it was cold and raining so he suggested a walk by the river instead,” she says. Not keen on the idea, Laura tried to resist but eventually relented. “I was pretty surprised when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said yes – but only after first asking whether he was serious,” she says.

The wedding day
“I loved that the wedding was a real reflection of us, with its relaxed, fun and intimate feel,” says Laura. They had a small guest list with only 59 people attending their daytime garden wedding with a vintage feel. They chose a lunchtime reception, officially ending at 5pm, in order to enjoy the gardens. But as most of the guests were staying at the hotel where the ceremony was, they spent the evening dancing and drinking cocktails.

The dress
Laura wore a V-necked ivory satin gown with a lace overlay. It featured a brooch at the bust and cap sleeves and was made by Nelder-Jones in Paddington.

The cake
They had a cupcake stack with two different flavours - chocolate with blue vanilla icing and vanilla with white coconut icing. They were made by Belisa Cupcakes in Engadine.

The honeymoon
They went to the USA and Mexico - San Francisco, Miami, Orlando, New York City, Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
