The meeting
Alesar and Owen met at work in 2006 but didn’t start dating until two years later after a friend’s 30th birthday party. “Owen approached me a couple of months prior to this, however I initially rejected his approaches,” says the 31 year-old. “In the end, in Owen’s words, ‘I couldn’t resist his charm and eventually fell for him’,” she says. As it was a work romance they initially kept it out of hours but it wasn’t long before everyone knew. “Our relationship instantly felt very natural, and an extension of our friendship...Owen and I moved in together after the wedding, so it is all very new and exciting. We are both understanding of each other and we are always giving each other small romantic surprises,” she says.

The proposal
Owen popped the question while they were having a picnic under the Harbour Bridge. “Owen had previously taken me there for picnics before, so I wasn’t really expecting it,” she says. Owen had intended to ask her in a quiet picnic spot but as they set up, so too did another 15 Sydneysiders who were wanting to enjoy the view. All the same, an extremely nervous Owen got down on one knee and proposed.

The wedding day
They wanted a simple and elegant garden ceremony and used a restricted colour palette of black and white to achieve it. The ceremony took place in The Domain with 120 guests and they were blessed with sunlight coming through clouds as they made their vows. They made their way to The Pavilion Restaurant in The Domain for the reception and were greeted by Syrian drums and family and friends.

The dress
Alesar wore a pure silk, empire line gown with a V-neck by Collette Dinnigan. She teamed it with a fascinator designed by Neil Grigg.

The cake
It was a round, two-tiered cake decorated with white fondant icing, black ribbons and white lilies. It was made by Casa Del.

The honeymoon
They went to Hawaii for 10 nights.
