IZHAR BASHA AND KATIE CAMPBELL
SERGEANTS MESS, CHOWDER BAY
Izhar and Katie met while they were both studying law at university and happened to be doing the same clerkship at Clayton Utz over the summer break. “There were a number of very close encounters prior to Izhar and I actually meeting for the first time, including when I worked as a casual sales assistant at Hugo Boss with Izhar’s best friend, Mo Moubayed, who now likes to take credit for ‘planting the seed’!” says Katie.
The proposal came on Valentine’s Day in 2009 while they were enjoying a seafood dinner at the Boathouse on Blackwattle Bay. “The whole night was a huge surprise – he had told me that we were going to meet his uncle for dinner, who was over from the UK, only to get there and find out that he had planned a romantic dinner for the two of us,” she says. Izhar planned to propose after dinner over a romantic walk around the bay but had to change his plans when the weather turned cold and rainy.
The wedding day
Katie and Izhar tied the knot in front of about 150 guests overlooking Sydney Harbour. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed canapés and cocktails before making their way to the reception at Sergeants Mess. The reception was opened with a performance by Polynesian fire dancers to pay tribute to Izhar’s Fijian heritage. The following day Izhar and Katie, along with their closest family and a few friends, took a cruise on Sydney Harbour before going on their honeymoon.
Katie wore a slim fitting V-necked gown with a French lace overlay and Swarovski crystal detailing. It featured sheer lace cap sleeves, a low corset back and a train. It was designed and made by Rhonda Hemmingway.
It was a three-tiered chocolate hazelnut cake from Celebration Cakes.
The photos were taken by Thomas Gallane Photogrpahy.
They spent seven nights in an overwater bungalow at the Intercontinental on Bora Bora island in Tahiti.
