KATIE GOMPERTZ AND TIM WILLIAMS
MANDALAY, LANE COVE, NSW
Both Katie and Tim are originally from the UK and they met there when they were 20. Katie was a bar manager and Tim a Royal Marine. “For weeks he would come to the bar and pull my pigtails to get my attention. Then one day he invited me to the camp open day. When I saw him in his dress uniform for the first time, we never looked back! He looked gorgeous all dressed up,” says Katie. Three years later they moved to Australia and never moved back. “Tim is fiercely loyal and he makes me laugh more than anyone I know (and equally winds me up),” says Katie.
Tim proposed during a small family BBQ that Tim had organised to celebrate Katie’s parents’ wedding anniversary. The weather made a turn for the worse and everyone ran inside. “I knew something was going on but didn't know what. Slowly everyone started to leave and Tim took me outside to the patio to ‘show me something on the BBQ’,” she says. When she turned around she found him on bended knee asking for her hand in marriage. “I didn't expect to be proposed to in the rain next to a BBQ with burnt chicken on it.”
The wedding day
It was an intimate day with 55 guests sharing in the festivities at Mandalay in Lane Cove. “My dad had such a tight grip on me walking down the aisle as I kept trying to speed ahead,” says Katie. Katie was lucky enough to have three of her bridesmaids come all the way from the UK to help celebrate and fuss over her. They made their vows on the lawns and then enjoyed great food and were entertained by a magician.
Katie wore a strapless Maggie Sottero gown with a French lace overlay. It featured a corset back and a red waist band.
They had cupcakes from Cupcakes on Pitt with a personalised cake topper (including their one year old son and two dogs).
The photos were taken by Paul Brown Photography.
They went to Fiji.
