CASSANDRA MILLS AND MATTHEW ROWAN
ALBERT STREET UNITING CHURCH, BRISBANE AND BRETTS WHARF RESTAURANT, HAMILTON, QLD
Matthew and Cassandra met while they were both on a night out. “Matthew noticed me being silly with friends and I noticed how sweet and different he was,” says Cassandra. “We exchanged numbers and a month later we went out for ice-cream on our first date,” she says.
Eight months later the proposal came. They were watching a movie together after celebrating a friend’s birthday. “We started talking about the future,” says Cassandra. So Matt decided to take advantage of the moment, despite having plans to propose three months later while on holidays. “Matt said he'd be right back. After ten minutes he crept back into the room, swept me up and carried me across a room full of candles to his balcony,” she says. He proposed with his grandmother’s engagement ring and was met with an enthusiastic ‘yes’.
The wedding day
Another two years later and they were gathered with 120 of their family and friends at Albert St Uniting Church to make their vows. A big highlight of the day: “The smiles on our faces as soon as we saw each other that we still can't remove,” says Cassandra. “And after being engaged for two years, seeing all of our hard work pay off in what was a seamless and beautiful occasion”.
Cassandra wore the Lulu gown by Wendy Makin Couture. It featured a dropped waist, ruched bodice, a corset back, lace skirt and a cathedral train.
The cake had three tiers – a layer of chocolate caramel marble cake, cherry ripe and a layer of jaffa. It was made by Jacinta from Rainbow Cakes.
The photos were taken by Henryk Lobaczewski.
They went to Queenstown in New Zealand.
