The meeting
Patrick and Veronica first met through a mutual friend in 2004 but it wasn't until five years later that Patrick made the first move and asked her on a date. “I only agreed because friends and family encouraged me. I was worried that things would be awkward if things didn't work out,” says Veronica. “But I shouldn't have been worried. I was left absolutely bewildered. I wondered - who was this man that could out talk me, a woman of considerable conversational ability?” she says. “He was definitely worth another shot...Our relationship works because we have contrasting personalities but share the same values. We both love a good laugh. We make each other try different things in life. Life is much better together!” says the 35 year-old.

The proposal
Patrick proposed in 2009 while they were away in Borneo, Malaysia. They had planned to climb to the summit of Mount Kinabalu for whichthey had to get up at 3am. “We just made it to the summit at sunrise. I was crying because I couldn't believe I had made it,” says Veronica. The air was thin and they were exhausted. “Patrick grabbed me around the shoulder and said 'Will you marry me?'” says Veronica. “A proposal was the last thing on my mind in my state of exhaustion, but of course I said 'Yes'”.

The wedding day
“It was a beautiful and joyous wedding, with no tears on our part - we were both very relaxed. I was laughing all the way down the aisle and through the mass,” says Veronica. They held their wedding in front of 160 guests at Nine Darling Street in South Yarra – the last wedding there after 90 years as a reception venue. “Whilst it was a formal wedding, we made sure it was as personalised as possible. Mum made home-made preserves with produce from Patrick's mum's garden, as well as individually wrapped wedding cakes,” she says.

The dress
Veronica wore a silk, strapless Julie Simonelli gown with a sweetheart neckline. It featured Swarovski crystal beading on the front and trailing down the back.

The cake
They chose the 'chocolate lettuce', the signature cake from The French Lettuce in Carlton. A light chocolate cake with a variety of nuts and layered with Kirsch and apricots.

The photography
The photos were taken by Andrew Noble Photography.

The honeymoon
They went to French Polynesia – Tahiti, Bora Bora and Moorea islands.
