Dan and Ingrid first met in the UK while she was over there studying at university. “Dan's half English, half kiwi. I'm half Australian, half Swedish,” says Ingrid. “By coincidence we moved back to Australia about the same time (separately),” she says. They met up when they were both back in Sydney and it wasn’t long before they got together.
Dan had apparently been planning the proposal for awhile and managed to keep it a surprise. When the initial plan of a proposal on their holiday to Sweden didn’t work out, Dan surprised Ingrid soon after they got back to Sydney. “It coincided with my birthday so came as a complete surprise – cocktails and dinner at Altitude at the Shangri La Hotel in Sydney,” says Ingrid. He had also secretly booked a room at the hotel and put her present – a new handbag – on the bed, with the ring inside. “Trouble was I got so overwhelmed with everything (not realising he was about to propose) that I burst into tears,” says Ingrid. He tried to persuade her to open the bag throughout her sobbing. “I eventually found it and before I knew it, he was down on one knee popping the question...I lost it completely then and happy tears unleashed again”.
The wedding day
They shared the day with 70 guests, many of whom had travelled from overseas, at St John’s Anglican Church and then at Red Hill Estate on the Mornington Peninsula. “We were overwhelmed by how many travelled so far to join us,” says Ingrid. They went for a fresh and natural feel choosing a colour theme of green, taupe and pewter. Instead of favours they chose to donate money to the Australian Cancer Research Foundation and gave all the guests ribbons to wear. Ingrid added some personal touches by undertaking a floristry course a few months before the wedding and making the buttonholes for the men.
Ingrid wore the Chelsea gown by Karen Willis Holmes in an ivory raw silk. It was a strapless, corset style gown with a sweetheart neckline, ruched bodice and tulle detailing.
They had a chocolate mud cake from The Cake Table in Mornington Peninsula.

They went to San Francisco, Napa Valley, Las Vegas and Hawaii.
